Repeated Citations in Footnotes

This subcategory allows you to format citations in footnotes differently depending on whether this is the first time you are citing a reference or not. In some cases it is desirable to have a shortened / different formatting of repeated citations.

The various options are:

If the Same Reference Repeats in Consecutive Citations
If a reference occurs in two footnotes that follow directly on one another (i.e. without other footnotes in between), you can choose to

    • replace the reference with a word / phrase, e.g. Ibid. (abbreviation for Ibidem = same place)
    • omit repeated information
    • use a short form (what this is will be stated in the definition of the relevant fields)

If the Same Source Repeats in Consecutive Citations
This choice includes cases in which two footnotes that follow directly on each other point to the same source. This does not mean that you cite the same reference, but that the references e.g. comes from the same journal / book.
In such cases, one can choose to

    • replace the repeated data with a word / phrase, e.g. Ibid. (see above)
    • just swap journal title or the like.
    • do not make any changes
